Noah Piper

Noah Piper is the patriarch of the Piper family in Vermont. He was born in 1750 or 1752 in Action (Bolton), Massachusetts, and died at age 79 (or 77) on September 17, 1829 in Baltimore, Vermont.

Noah is a founding settler of Baltimore, Vermont sometime before 1788, when he owned 150 acres of land. His grandfather, Nathaniell Pyper, is the patriarch of the Piper family in America, having immigrated to Ipswich in the Massachusetts Colony in 1653 from Dartmouth, England.

His parents were John Piper and Ruth Clark, who had 7 children:

  • Cabel Piper, born 1752

Noah married Sarah Newton on March 29, 1773 in Templeton, Worcester County, MA. Their children were:

  • Amos Piper, born 1776 (John Vincent Piper’s great-great-grandfather))
  • Lucretia Piper, born 1777
  • Ruth Piper, born 1779
  • Prudy Piper, born 1780?
  • Eunice Piper, born 1780

  • Levi Piper, born 1793
Noah served (in his late 20s) in the Revolutionary War, serving at the Battle of Saratoga on 1777. His older brother Abel had more extensive experience in the Revolutionary War, serving at Concord/Lexington (1775), the Battle of Dorchester Heights (1776) when George Washington forced the British out of Boston, and Saratoga (1777).
